Dynamics of elliptical vortices in a trapped quantum fluid

The nonequilibrium dynamics of vortices in two-dimensional quantum fluids can be predicted by accounting for the way which vortex ellipticity is coupled to gradient background fluid density. In absence nonlinear interactions, a harmonically trapped analyzed analytically show that single will move an elliptic trajectory has same orientation and aspect ratio as projection itself. This allows estimated through observation its trajectory. A combination analysis numerical simulation then used interactions cause precess, rate precession once again mimicked elliptical Both therefore inferred observing motion trap. An ability anticipate control local structure expected prove useful designing few-vortex systems ubiquitous, as-yet-unharnessed feature.
